Mission/Goal/history :

Our Vision is to:
• Improve the community’s physical and mental health
• Improve access to quality healthcare
• Improve health equity

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans’ systems of health care sustained a devastating blow. Neighborhoods around St. Anna’s Episcopal Church repopulated with working class and medically under-served residents. Many came home despite lacking access to medical care within the city. Many also did not have the ability to travel to other communities in search of affordable health care.

“I was sick and you took care of me.” Matthew 25:36

St. Anna’s Church, as well as several other churches around the nation, saw a desperate need post-Katrina and established the St. Anna’s Medical Mission in January 2006. By consistently being available, providing services with respect and dignity, we earn trust, educate and empower our patients to become more active in their own healthcare and provide referral services to many new community based clinics and services in the New Orleans area.

From 2006 through 2011 we have:
• Provided over 18,000 services to clients
• Provided low-cost mental health services
• Developed strong partnerships with community-based agencies and programs
• Strengthened collaborations with other healthcare providers
• Received in 2007 an Innovator of the Year Award from CityBusiness Magazine
• Consistently looked to improve staff and organizational knowledge that will enhance patient care
• Provided a supportive environment for medical and nursing education

The St. Anna’s Medical Mission provides the resources and skills of a health and faith community with dignity and respect, to serve the people of the New Orleans area in an effort to make quality healthcare accessible to all.

We believe everyone should be treated equitably with dignity and respect.
We believe that prevention and identification of chronic health problems, health education and access to high quality health services will enhance the lives of our patients and the well-being of our community.

We believe that health is the state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.
